Tampa, FL - James H. Jameson passed away, while still holding his wife's hand, at 5:15 a.m. on June 7, 2024, at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, FL. His death was the result of complications from surgery. He fought hard for ten weeks, but his body ran out of strength.
Known as "Jim" by most (and Rocky to a few) he was born in Millinocket, Maine, the second oldest child of James W. Jameson and Betty E. (Miller) Jameson. He attended Millinocket schools, graduating from Stearns High School, class of 1971. He was happily working Great Northern Paper Company's last log drive on the Penobscot River when Uncle Sam called his number. He joined the Army and proudly served as part of Company C, 1st Battalion (ABN), 509th Infantry Battalion Combat Team and was selected to be part of a NATO Special Ops Unit. He attended the University of Maine on the GI bill, graduating in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics College of Life Science and Agriculture. Jim loved the outdoors and spent many happy years at Smith Pond and Ambejejus Lake, both in Millinocket. He had his first Maine Guide's license in 1975. In later years, he retested and kept his license active until 2015. Along with hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends. Along with his wife, MaryLou, he co-chaired the Ruffed Grouse Society of Maine. He worked for many years as Production and Transportation Manager for Lincoln Pulp and Paper Company and later went to work for L.L. Bean in Freeport, ME. After retirement, he and MaryLou moved to Leesburg, FL, in 2012 and 2018 to Lake Ashton in Winter Haven, FL. For a few years, they enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and Canada in their motor home, including a trip to Newfoundland to visit members of MaryLou's family. The trips always worked their way back to Maine to spend a few weeks with family and friends. Except for a few bird hunting trips, the cold weather sports gave way to chasing a little white ball around the golf course. If you asked him, he was never very good, but he certainly enjoyed the time with his friends, many of them in the Blue Man Group on Wednesday mornings.
Jim was a good son, son-in-law, brother, and uncle. He was also a loving and devoted husband, father, Papa, and loyal friend to many. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Thomas R. Jameson, and Timothy L. Jameson. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Arthur E. McKenzie and Avis (Brann) McKenzie who forgot the "in-law" part and loved him simply as their son. He is survived and deeply missed by his wife, MaryLou (McKenzie) Jameson of Winter Haven, FL; his daughters, Alicia Nicole and her husband, Mike Mellott, and their children, Gabriella, Maks and Bentley; and Allsion and her husband, Billy Baker, and their children, Kamden and Cohen, all of Bangor, Maine. Also surviving Jim are his sisters, Donna Rousseau of Kittery, Maine, and Tracey and her husband, Marty Ferwerda, of Old Town, Maine; and his brother, Jeffrey Jameson and his wife, Lori, of Millinocket; his nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; and many special friends. Also missing Jim and their afternoon golf cart rides is his Brittany Spaniel, Jazz.
For Florida family and friends, a celebration of life for Jim will be held at 2 p.m. on July 28 in the Lake Ashton Clubhouse Ballroom, 4140 Ashton Club Dr., Lake Wales, Florida. There will also be a memorial service for Jim, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Reeves, on August 11 at 2 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, Maine.
