James G. Larson, 79, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his home with his wife by his side. Jim was born on September 9, 1944, in Fargo, ND, to James and Agnes (Libbrecht) Larson.
Jim lived with his parents and sister, Mary and brother, Robert on the family farm in Breckenridge, MN, until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969. After a tour in Viet Nam, Jim had several deployments aboard ship and was stationed in North Carolina and Hawaii. He served at the American embassies in South Africa and Saudi Arabia, was assigned to recruiting duty in Kentucky and Indiana, and served as NCOIC at Brunswick Naval Air Station. His last assignment was I&I (Inspector-Instructor) duty in Massachusetts. He retired at the rank of Sergeant Major in 1994.
Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1995 to 2013 in Wiscasset, retiring to the Bangor area with his wife, Denise, to be near their children and grandchildren.
Jim was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving as logistics manager for the Bangor region. His interests were the nightly news, Maine’s ever-changing weather, gardening, and being in the great outdoors.
Survivors are his wife, Denise (Rajotte) Larson; son and daughter-in-law, Peter Larson and Parinaz Belalpour Dasjerdi; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and James Reinholdtsen; grandchildren, Quinn R. Larson and Aaron James Reinholdtsen; sister, Mary Tralle; brother, Robert Larson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Gifts in Jim’s memory may be made to Maine 4-H Foundation, York Complex #1, Orono, ME 04469.
