James Leighton

James Leighton passed away on December 2, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on August 31, 1932 to Eugene & Vanonia (Gestner) Leighton in Lincoln, Maine. After High School, Jim joined the US Army and served 2 years during the Korean War. Jim worked for Darlings of Bangor for 20 years, retiring in 1996. Jim was a member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge #217 AF & AM of Orrington, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory of Portland and Anah Shrine. In his free time, Jim was a collector of all things collectable. Coins, baseball cards, hats, beanie babies, stamps, die-cast cars, and many other things. Gatherings with family & friends often included an impromptu show & tell of his latest find. Jim also loved candlepin bowling, woodworking, music from the 30’s and 40’s and weekly outings with friends.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Patricia Leighton in 2010 and his son Steven Leighton in 2004.
He is survived by his daughter Becky Craig of Orrington, Sons Howard Leighton of Scarborough and James Leighton of Standish and stepsons John Clark of South Portland, William Clark of Levant, and James Clark of Westbrook. He was grandfather to Jason & Cal Leighton, Jodi Malley, Julia Leighton & Brooke Leighton, Samantha & Erin Clark, and Dylan Leighton. Great grandchildren Chase and Paislee Leighton, Carson Leighton, Adriana, Kendra and Kianna Council, and Miller Bradway.
A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 11 am. Monday December 9, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share memories and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings -Smith, 163 Center St in Bangor following the service.
