James Mckeen

January 31, 1945 — December 24, 2022

BANGOR - James E. “Jim” McKeen, 77, passed away unexpectedly December 24, 2022, at a local hospital. He was born January 31,1945, in Mars Hill, the son of Elwood and Wanda (Faulkner) McKeen.

Jim graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in Bridgewater, Class of 1963. Following graduation, he attended the Northeast Broadcasting School in Boston and became a radio announcer at WLTN in Littleton, Hew Hampshire. After returning home to Aroostook County in 1965, he accepted a job at Northern National Bank in Presque Isle where he was involved in computer programming and became the Data Processing Officer. He completed an Associates’ Degree at Husson University and studied at IBM in Florida. He eventually transitioned to Canal National Bank in Portland as a computer analyst and managed the programming department; Concord Savings Bank in Concord, New Hampshire; and Merrill Bangor in Bangor. He ended his career at Bangor Savings Bank as Senior Computer Operations Coordinator in 2009. He served with the 152nd Artillery Unit in Northern Maine for 6 years. He greatly enjoyed being involved as a lay speaker and interim pastor of multiple Baptist and Advent Christian churches in Aroostook County, Portland, and New Hampshire over the years. He attended The Rock Church in Bangor before a period of declining health.

Jim is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Lori (Duncan) McKeen; his daughter, Lindsay Whitty and her husband, Ian, of Dedham; son, James and partner, Jamie Madore, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; stepmother, Anne McKeen, of Presque Isle; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Janet Peary, of Washburn; nephew, Christopher Peary and his wife, Laura Supica, of Bangor; and nieces, Jaime Ie and her daughter, Brianna, of Lewiston. Many extended maternal family members reside in Texas. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a sister, Sherry McKeen.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Those who wish to remember Jim in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Washburn Community Church, P.O. Box 501, Washburn, ME 04786.
