It is with highly mixed emotions that we announce that James Ellis Osgood Jr. won his battle with dementia on April 15, 2024 and is now free and whole again. He was born June 9th, 1943 in Brewer, ME, to James E. Osgood Sr. and Evie Elizabeth (Fortier) Osgood.
Jim grew up in Brewer and graduated from John Bapst High School, Class of 1962. After graduating, he was drafted by the US Army where he served most of his time in Germany as a radio operator. When he returned home, he resumed his career with the Maine Department of Transportation. He was promoted multiple times throughout his career, and after “retiring”, he continued working with the DOT part time until he fully retired.
Jim married the love of his life, Dee Ann Dempsey on August 23rd, 1969. Together, they raised 5 children. Boston sports were some of his favorites, especially talking Red Sox with his mother-in-law, but he also loved going to the Maine hockey games. Even though he was a hard worker, family time, from playing croquet, kickball, basketball, cards, board games, or going to family reunions, was what he enjoyed most. When a new baby was getting passed around, Jim was the first one with his hands out to hold them. If there was a cook out, Jim would be the one making sure everyone was fed. He taught three generations of the family how to drive, if anyone needed help, he was the first to volunteer, and he will be fondly remembered for the salsa he would make and can every year with ingredients from his own garden.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his loving wife, Dee Ann; and two sisters, Lorraine Passarello and Karen Floyd. He is survived by his children, Suzanne Rowell and her husband, Richard, Robert Osgood and his wife, Joyce, Paulie Nichols, Wendy Tarbox and her husband, Michael, and Jodie Osgood; sisters, Marcia Clark, Christine Ward and her husband, Roger, Mary Gauthier and her husband, Don; his brother, Mark and his wife April; as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life, as well as interment with his dear wife, Dee Ann, will be announced at a later date. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to dementia research at http://act.alz.org/goto/JamesEOsgoodJr or to your local humane society.
