James Proctor

January 12, 1982 — February 6, 2016

BANGOR- James E. “Reggie” Proctor, beloved son of Ann M. Marston and Stephen J. Proctor, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 6, 2016 in Toledo, Ohio. He was born in Bangor on January 12, 1982.
James, “Reggie” grew up in Bangor. He graduated from Bangor High School in 2000. He earned a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Maine in 2005 and a B.S. in Marine Engineering Operations from Maine Maritime Academy in 2010.
He spent several years working for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute on the Research Vessel KNORR which mapped undersea geological formations throughout the North and South Atlantic Oceans. His time on the KNORR allowed him to explore Iceland, Greenland, S. Africa, and the Azores. Most recently he worked as a marine engineer for Grand River Navigation on the Great Lakes.
Reggie enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Holbrook Pond and many years skiing at Sugarloaf. He enjoyed skiing since he could stand and served alongside his grandfather as a member of the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol from 1998-1999. Reggie would read everything he could get his hands on and was especially fond of National Geographic, which he would read cover to cover from a very young age. He enjoyed sharing what he learned and could recall facts on just about any topic. Reggie was a proud, adoring father to his 'very advanced' son Arlo James who will be 2 years old in March. Some of their favorite things to do together included going for bike rides and playing in Daddy's truck. They both saw something in that old truck that no one else could. There is a hole in our hearts and lives where Reggie should be. We will forever love and treasure his memory.
In addition to his parents, Reggie is survived by his wife Kate MacLellan Proctor, son Arlo James Proctor, his brother and best friend, Kevin M. Proctor, his special grandmother Elizabeth “Betty” Marston, his Uncle Chuck, Aunts Cindy, Carla, Molly, Pam, Heidi, and Laurie and many treasured friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Charles F. Marston and his Uncle James Proctor.
A funeral service will be held 3pm Monday, February 15 at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to gather at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, immediately following the service Monday.
Condolences and stories may be shared at www.BrookingsSmith.com or on Reggie's Facebook page. A memory book will be created for Arlo.
Those who wish to remember Reggie in a special way may make gifts in his name to the Arlo J Proctor Education Fund at Bangor Savings Bank, PO Box 930, Bangor, Maine 04402.
