James Somers

October 30, 1946 — December 14, 2016

James “Jim” William Somers, 70, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2016. He was born October 30, 1946, in Bangor, the son of Gordon R. and Marion T. (Daley) Somers.

Jim graduated from Hampden Academy in the Class of 1965. He served his country in the U. S. Army completing two tours during the Vietnam War. Jim worked for the Maine DOT, Maine Central Railroad, and more recently for Webber Supply. He was a member of the VFW in Hampden and the DAV. Jim was a member of the Bangor VA Support Group and enjoyed his time with his “VA Buddies”.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Gerry (Ross) Somers of Newburgh; a son, Brent Somers and companion Kylie Barnett of Newburgh; a daughter, Kendra Wainer and husband Joseph of Orland; grandchildren, Aspen Somers, Jason Wainer, and Kayla Buchanan; a brother, David Somers and wife Maureen of New Jersey; sisters, Tretha Kapetan and Sandra Johnston and husband Dale, all of Conn.; several nieces, nephews and special in-laws. A special thanks to Nesta Ross for all her time and compassion during Jim’s illness. Jim was predeceased by his parents as well as two brothers, Gordan and Douglas Somers.

A celebration of life service will be held 11AM, Mon, Dec. 19, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Friends are invited to gather with the family from 10 AM until the start of the service. Interment with military honors will be held in the spring at Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
