Orono – James “Jim” Treadwell, 82, died January 24, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born June 9, 1937 in Orono, the son of Lyndon and Phoebe (Prue) Treadwell.
He was a graduate of Orono High School, class of 1955. He enlisted in the Navy right after graduation and proudly served through 1959.
James worked for 38 years at the University of Maine, retiring as Assistant Facilities Director.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carole (Dubay) Treadwell; his children, Chuck Treadwell and his wife, Rebecca, of Veazie, Cindy Treadwell of Phoenix, Arizona, and Cheryl Keim and her partner Michael Giordano, of New York City; grandsons, Anthony Fulcher and his wife, Analydia, of Tucson, Arizona, and James Treadwell, of Veazie; great-granddaughters, Amaya, Salma, and Isana Fulcher of Tucson, Arizona; his sister, Verda LeClaire, of Bangor; sister-in-law, Francis Treadwell, of Orono; brothers-in-law, Norman Dubay and his wife, Beverly, of Tucson, Arizona, and Lionel Dubay and his wife, Cherie, of Gainesville, Florida; sister-in-law, Barbara Hersey, of Milford; many nieces and nephews, and his cat, Miss Molly.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Lyndon Jr. and Arthur Treadwell; his sister, Elaine Wade; and sister-in-law, Ginny Treadwell.
He will be missed by his best friends, John Dall of Old Town and Don Joseph of Orono, along with the guys he had coffee with at McDonalds every morning, and many others.
The family wants to thank all the nurses, doctors, and staff in the ICU and the 3rd floor of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, who gave him excellent care during his time there.
Per his request, no services will be held. Those who wish to remember Jim in a special way may make a donation to the Jim Treadwell Scholarship Fund to benefit an Orono High School student continuing post-secondary education, c/o Camden National Bank, 1176 Union St. Bangor, ME 04401.
