EDDINGTON & STETSON – James E. “Jim” Turner, 85, passed away at a local hospital September 8, 2020. He was born March 7, 1935, in Woodland, the son of William and Stella (Brown) Turner.
Jim studied music at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and earned a degree at the Washington County Community College. Following college, he served in the U.S. Army. Jim married Lucille Simard in 1956, and together had three children. Jim worked in the Lewiston area as a manager for the Chressey & Allen music store, and also as a pianist for local restaurants, particularly Steckino’s. Later in life, he moved back to the Bangor area where he worked for General Electric as a Burr and Clean operator for 18 years. Jim made many friends through his work playing music, known notably as the organist for the University of Maine Black Bears, where he played for all the sports team games. Jim was a past member of the Anah Shriners and Grand Organist for the Masons in the state of Maine. Jim was fortunate later in life to find love in a second marriage to Shirley (Fox) Orcutt.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by two wives, Lucille (Simard) Turner, Shirley (Fox) Turner; a sister, Madline Haley, and brothers, Paul, Walter, and William Turner. Surviving are daughters, Jean Turner of Brewer, Joline Nadeau and husband, Alvin of Stetson; a son, John Turner of Gainsville, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Nadeau and Bethany Turner; a great-grandchild, Dillon Hibbard; special niece, Ann Liso. Jim also leaves behind a special friend and pet, Raskall. Jim met a special friend, Judy Roundy, and they have shared many memories together over the last few years. They met at the All Soul’s Café and went dancing each Sunday at City Side Restaurant. They loved the Coach House Restaurant and Pat’s Pizza in Hampden as well as the people who worked there. James would like to thank Hannaford Pharmacy in Brewer for all of their help and kindness over the years.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, services will be private for the family. Interment will be in Eddy Cemetery, Eddington.
