HOLDEN - Jane Lear, 88, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at an Orono long-term care facility. She was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Bangor, the daughter of Ralph Leslie and Josephine (Eaton) Avery Sr.
She grew up in Holden and graduated from Brewer High School in 1941 as one of the youngest in her class. She married Arthur Melvin Lear at her parents' house in Holden on Oct. 31, 1941; they moved into a home next to that house in 1952. Jane worked for many years as secretary for Anesthesia Associates and in her spare time loved to do ceramics, many of which her family still has, cats, and candy. One of her favorite places was at the family camp at Chemo Pond in Clifton, where there were many family memories made.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and her brother, Ralph. She leaves behind three children, Sandra and her husband, Paul Cust Sr. of Otis, Alan Arthur Lear and his wife, Cynthia of Damariscotta, David Arthur Lear and his wife, Melissa of Holden; three grandsons, Paul Cust Jr., Alex Lear and Joshua Lear; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Cust; and a special nephew, Harland Young.
Friends may call at noon Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, until time of service at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where services will begin at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Grace Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Harts Corner Cemetery in Holden following the service.
