Janet Armstrong, 88, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 with family by her side. Janet was born on May 2, 1933 in Dallas Plantation, Maine, the second of twelve children to Thale and Barbara (Goodine) Brackett.
After graduating from LaGrange High School, Janet married her sweetheart, Fred, in 1952. They settled in Millinocket, together built their own home, and raised their three children – Hale, Mark and Peggy. Mom worked hard to maintain an immaculate home and always had something baking or cooking for her family. Her date-filled molasses cookies were amazing and a family favorite! Mom loved to knit and crochet and made it look easy. Mom and Dad worked side by side painting homes in the Millinocket area, and she was a proud volunteer at the Katahdin Nursing Home for 19 years. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, making trips across the country, with stops at Mark’s home in California and Peggy’s in Wyoming, along with many bus tours.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Armstrong; a son, Hale Armstrong; grandson, Derek Armstrong; her parents; six brothers and two sisters.
Janet is survived by her son, Mark Armstrong and his wife Teresa of Woodbridge, California; her daughter, Peggy Armstrong of Millinocket, Maine; six grandchildren, Sarah Armstrong, Liz Sturman and her husband Josh, Patrick Armstrong, Joey Armstrong, Alyssa McLean and Evan McLean; three great-grandchildren, Craig Armstrong, Colton Sturman and Cassidy Sturman; sisters Jean Armstrong, and Barbara Collins and her husband, Roger, and a brother, Joe Brackett and his wife, Janie; three sisters-in-law Eloise Brackett, Cynthia Brackett and Gertrude Murphy, as well as extended family and friends.
A special thanks to Aunt Barbie and Uncle Roger for opening their home to Mom and giving her immeasurable love and care over the last year. We cannot thank you enough. And also, to Brenda at St. Joseph’s Hospice for all the support and care of Mom during her final months.
