BANGOR - Janet Elaine (Lang) Nakai, 77, died peacefully in her home December 21, 2021 with family members by her side. She was born April 2, 1944 in Bangor, the daughter of Donald A. and Sevelina (Murray) Lang.
Janet grew up on a small farm in West Winterport and graduated from Winterport High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation, she worked in Bangor for a brief time, met her future husband, Hideaki R. Nakai, and married November 1965, in Seabrook, New Jersey. Janet worked for Seabrook Farms Inc., in the purchasing department until the family decided to return to Maine in July, 1971. Janet and her husband settled in Bangor where they raised two daughters. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her back yard animals of birds, squirrels, raccoons, and chipmunks. She loved them all.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her daughters, Kim M. Badershall, of Kenduskeag, and Shari R. Nakai-Lombardi, of Bangor; grandsons, Daniel DiSanto, Cody Steele, and Vincent Lombardi; great-grandson, Caydan DiSanto; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her sisters, and their husbands, Madeline and Carl Hammond, and loma and Fred Riley.
A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Friday, January 7, 2022, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Chaplain Eric Larson MD officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Spring interment at the Pilgrims Home Cemetery, Monroe, will be private for family.
