Janet (Hersey)McKay –89, died November 17,2018. She was born October 19, 1929, in Bangor, the daughter of Althea (Hatch) and Charles Edward Hersey.
Janet grew up a “Daddy’s Girl”. She graduated from Bangor High in 1947. She met the love of her life on August 1, 1947 and later married Wilfred Raymond McKay on November 17 of the same year. They loved each other very much. Their favorite song was “Near You” and they sang it to each other for 49 years. They created seven children and enjoyed watching them grow up, playing various sports, especially basketball at Orono High School. Janet was a member of the Veazie Ladie’s Aide and a talented seamstress. After the death of her husband in 1996, she lived in Milford and was well taken care by her son and “Knight in Shining Armor “, Gerald ,until his sudden death in 2016.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister Norma and her husband George McKay; her special son, Gerald McKay; and many sister and brother in laws.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses; Judy and Jim Dean, Scott and Diana McKay, Robin and John Grigsby, Edward and Edie McKay, Candice and Ed Hackett, Kevin ad Alice McKay. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great -grandchildren, with 3 more on the way.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main Street, Orono, with a short Service of Remembrance at 11:00 AM officiated by her son, Edward McKay.
