Janice Deering

February 27, 1926 — April 4, 2015

BANGOR - Janice Louise Swinerton Deering, passed away April 4, 2015 and was born in Dade County Florida on the Tamiami Trail to Genivieve Paige and John Henry Swinerton in a home built by her father. The record hurricane of 1927 resulted in a move North to Maine. Janice was 8 when her mother died. Janice met Billy Deering in 7th grade. They grew up together and graduated from Waterboro High School in 1943 (attending their high school reunion last year as usual).

After high school, Janice worked in the defense effort while Bill served in the Navy. They were engaged on the Pier at Old Orchard Beach to the sound of Tommy Dorsey Band and married a year later on June 30, 1946. Janice and Bill moved to Bangor Maine after the fire of '47 and they built a life in Bangor. Lovingly, rearing four children; Donna O'Donnell of Perrinville, NJ, Beau Deering of Acton, MA, Paegan Deering of Westford, MA and Candy Spalding of Bucksport, ME.

Janice was proud of her eight special grandchildren each of whom knew her special love, warmth and joy and loved her dearly. Janice has six great- grandchildren and two on the way... Janice was a homemaker and a business woman. She bought and sold cars and houses over the years and wanted to buy a convertible or another house to fix up this summer. She could always see the possibilities. Two of her fixer uppers are along the Penobscot - one her home of the past 40 years and the other her sea side home, The Farm, which she loved to share with family and friends.

For many years she did Opinion Research surveys and organized the Bangor City Directory because people enjoyed talking to her. She enjoyed her church family, and took pride in starting a wreath sale, a Valentine dinner and auction, which gave her much pleasure to see continue.

The Deering family invites friends and relatives to a celebration of Janice's life at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 11, at East Orrington Congregational Church with conversation and comforting repast to follow. Those wishing to remember her in a special way may contribute in her honor to East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Rd., Orrington, ME. 04474.
