Janice L.A. Gifford born June 11, 1944 was the daughter of the late Francis and Fern (Spencer) Gifford of Old Town, Me. After graduating with honors from Old Town High School in 1962 she later received her BS degree in Business Finance from Lasell University.
She began her career at the University of Maine at Orono in June 1962 and retired in July 2006. During her employment at the University, she began her career as secretary to the Student Aid Office. She later became Office Manager for the School of Forest Resources and before the end of her 44-year career she was elevated and served for many years as Financial Officer for the College of Natural Resources, Forestry and Agriculture.
She is survived by a special lifelong friend, Jacqueline Hunter of Alton, and very special friend, Mary Jordan of Alton. Two sisters, Joycelyn Brackley and husband, Allen of Strong, Me., Regina Pelletier and husband, Patrick of Gorham, Me., including several nephews and nieces.
Jan was an avid world traveler enjoying several Bible pilgrim trips to Israel, Greece, and the Netherlands. Jan loved her home in Alton and enjoyed the opportunity to garden during the summer. A favorite pastime was spent reading.
She was a member of Columbia Street Baptist church.
