Janice Minson

Janice Monica Minson, 64, died unexpectedly November 28, 2018. She was born September 7, 1954, in Bangor the daughter of H. Burpee and Jessie (Ashford) Calkins.

Janice graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Plants and Soil Science. She served her country in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 22 years where she met her loving husband, Butch. She enjoyed gardening, making jam, and traveling. Janice was a caring, kind person who was devoted to her family. She will be remembered for her ability to talk with anyone and enjoyed conversation.

She is survived by a son, Matthew Minson of New Gloucester; a daughter, Monica Minson of California; a sister, Betty Nelson and husband Kevin, and their son Ben of Hampden; a brother John Calkins of Hampden; several sisters and brothers-in-law and families; special cousins Monica and Bryce Nicholson of Australia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Butch Minson and a brother Clyde.

Friends are invited to gather with the family from 2-4 PM, Sunday, December 2, 2018, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. Graveside services will be announced in the spring at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Gifts in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
