BREWER- Janice “Jan” T. Barton, 75, formerly of Buxton, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020, after a long, courageous battle with Dementia. Born in Houlton, Janice was the daughter Mark Daniel and Verda Pearl (MacDonald) Reardon.
Jan is survived by son, Dennis J. Barton and his wife, Jen; daughter, Laura “Lori” Osgood and her husband, Scott; grandchildren, Ridge Osgood, Cassidy Osgood and John Barton; her brother, Shirley Reardon and his wife, Alta; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jan was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie and brothers Dennis, Ralph and Paul.
After graduating from Houlton High School in 1963, Jan moved to Portland and stayed with brother, Paul and his family while she entered the work force. Born to paint, but forced to work, she was employed by Saunders Brothers in Westbrook until 2002. She then worked for Artforms in Westbrook. She had a very strong work ethic, but also had some fun along the way. Her coworkers were her extended family. In her retirement years, Jan was able to spend her days creating. A self-taught artist, her specialty was painting the beauty of Maine’s natural scenery and lighthouses.
Jan enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Caribbean with a dear friend. Her favorite mode of transportation was a 2-seater light aircraft, while her greatest adventure was flying from Maine to Alaska through the Yukon Territory with a group of other aviation enthusiasts. Jan was an avid reader. Her favorite authors were her son, D.J. Barton and Stephen King. She loved all animals, but definitely had a preference for cats. She enjoyed helping out at her daughter’s alpaca farm. Jan said her biggest success in life was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and then some.
A Celebration of Life will he held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Brookings-Smith Chapel, 133 Center St., Bangor.
