Jean Elizabeth Wetherbee, 89, passed away May 11, 2015, at Ross Manor with her family by her side. She was born April 21, 1926, at St. Stephen, N.B. Canada, the daughter of George “Bert” and Jennie (Hastey) Moore.
Jean was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and the Provincial Normal School, later known as the N. B. Teaching College at Fredericton, N. B. In her life’s journey she taught school in the New Brunswick School System until she moved to Maine, after marrying William L. “Bill” Wetherbee and became a naturalized US citizen. Jean was a stay-at-home mother while her children were young, and later was employed by the Bangor School Department as a teacher’s aide and a library aide. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor, a member of the Brewer Garden Club and Bird Club; and also a former member of the Brewer Historical Society. Jean’s special interests were family and home. She was extremely proud of her two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Wetherbee; brothers and sisters, Raymond and Eldon Moore, Florence Giggey and Josephine Savage, and a son-in-law Steven Byram. She is survived by her children, Paul Wetherbee and wife Rebecca of Veazie, Bonnie Byram and husband Frank Homola of Gaylord, Michigan; grandchildren, Sean Byram and wife Kim, Jennifer Byram, Kathryn and William Wetherbee; great-grandchildren, Connor and Carter Byram, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 14, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer, with Rev. Arlene Tully, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Bangor, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, Brewer, following the service.
