Jeanette Chamoff

March 27, 1919 — May 10, 2014

Jeanette (Emple) Chamoff “Jean” “Bubbie”, 95, regretfully left this world on May 10, 2014, in Bangor where she lived all her life. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her cherished family. She was born on March 27, 1919 in Bangor to Abraham Osher Emple and Katie (Richardson) Emple.
Before marriage Jean worked for A. Emple and Company where she had to take over the business during the war. She also worked for the Credit Bureau. Once her children were grown she worked for Market Research as an area supervisor. Jean was a stay at home mom for her five children and kept busy writing poems and cooking large family meals. She was very creative and loved having ‘themes’ for her large meals. She would even send invitations to the family to come for her dinners. She came up with a tradition of giving buttons with sayings at Thanksgiving. Each button generally applied to the person. They always brought humor to the table. She shared her poems at family events as well as other places. She was often asked to share them at Senior Citizen functions and was also called upon to write one for the special events of others. She was a member Beth Israel Sisterhood and the Friendship Club. She was also a member of Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue where she continued to go to services on Saturday morning until the time of her death. You could always spot her because she would be wearing a hat from her collection of over 100.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Hyman, Maurice, Herbert, Larry and Irving Emple, and sisters Anne Levine and Dorothy Simonds. She is survived by her children Jon and Donna Chamoff, Judy (Chamoff) and Dan Gatchell, Zelda Chamoff, Denise (Chamoff) and Greg Masalsky, and Jim and Norrie Chamoff, grandchildren, Kate (Gatchell) Foye and husband Colin, Erin (Chamoff) Wheeler and husband Sanderson, Benjamin Gatchell, Jessica (Masalsky) Rohrer and husband Travis, Ryan and Meghan Chamoff, Elizabeth Masalsky and great-grandchildren Connor, Sam and Joshua Foye, Simone Wheeler and Athena Rohrer. Also surviving her is a special sister-in-law Barbara Braverman. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
