Jeanette Elizabeth (St. Louis) Sylvester, 84, a long time resident of Carmel, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 14, at home with her husband by her side. Jeanette was born in Old Town on July 11, 1931, the 10th of 15 children to Leo and Gladys (Bouchard) St. Louis. She married the love of her life, Roger Sylvester, on May 15, 1950, in Bangor, and settled in Carmel where they raised their family.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 66 years, Roger, and their children, Brenda Theriault and her husband Stanley of Waterville, Michael Sylvester and his wife Wanda of Greenbush, and David Campbell of Northfield; daughter in law, Coreen (Missy) Sylvester of Carmel; grandchildren Timothy Robinson Jr. of Brewer, Terra and David Lee of Dixmont, Wayne Sudborough of South Carolina, Kristi and Walter Carlow of Winslow, Richard Sylvester of Holden, Jennifer Sylvester of Florida, Justin Sylvester of Carmel, and Jason Sylvester of Bath; 15 great-grandchildren, Brittani, Tiffani, Chelsea, Dylan, Chelsea, Shyanne, Christian, Emily, Keely, Makenzie, Riley, Bronwyn, Aislyn, Cameron, and Macy; and 4 great-great-grandchildren, Aubreigh, Alexander, Peyton, and Avery. Also surviving is her younger brother Richard (Dickie) St. Louis and his wife Donna of Brewer.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Ricky Sylvester; siblings Hazel Jarvis, Helen (Biddo) Bonder, Dorothy Overcash, Alyce Pitman, Leon St. Louis, Jr., Donald St. Louis, Virginia Tracy, Harold St. Louis, Evelyn Dunton, Eugene St. Louis, Phyllis Smith, two sisters that died as infants, and her beloved dog, Dusty.
Jeanette enjoyed summers at camp on Pushaw Lake in Hudson. She was an avid collector of bells and loved watching the Celtics, Patriots, and NASCAR races. Jeanette enjoyed the daily crossword, jigsaw puzzles, plastic canvas needle point, beano each Sunday, and crocheting afghans for family and friends, donating them for the last several years to the residents of the Maine Veterans Home at Togus. If you knew Jeanette, you know she always had a batch of fresh-baked cookies on hand. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Carmel Fire and Rescue service.
A graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Carmel will be scheduled for the spring.
