Jeanette Tardif

Jeanette Ruth (Hook) Tardif, 86, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2016, at her home with her family by her side following a brief battle with dementia and cancer. She was born September 13, 1929, in Melrose, MA, the daughter of Harold W. and Mary (Wentworth) Hook.

Jeanette was a 1948 graduate of Melrose High School, was a member of Kappa Delta Psi sorority, and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. In 1965 she moved to Bangor where she met and married Richard, her husband of 48 years. Together they enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, sailing, traveling, and spending time with family. Jeanette was also a Lady Shriner of Anah Temple, a member of First Baptist Church of Bangor, and a talented crafter.

Jeanette was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center for 25 years, ending her career working with Drs. Patch and Levy. Upon retirement, she and Dick spent their winters at their home in Venice, FL for 15 years, but it was in Bayside, ME where she loved being most. Bayside was where she spent all her summers growing up in the family cottage, and it was in Bayside where she and Dick lived the rest of their lives together. She was very involved in the community where she was a member of the Northport Yacht Club and, from 1981-2001, was secretary for the Northport Village Corporation where she received a special recognition award for her 20 years of service.

Surviving in addition to her husband Richard Tardif, are her son, Steven Flowers of Northport; daughter Pamela Frye and husband Peter of Hermon; stepsons Raymond Tardif and partner Betty of Cushing, Bertrand Tardif and wife Susan of Lewiston, and Paul Tardif and partner Joy of Leeds; stepdaughter Jolene Landry and husband Richard of Auburn, AL; a sister Marilyn Matteson and husband Lawrence of Moline, IL; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a special niece; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 3 grandchildren and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 30, at First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor with the Rev. Dr. David Henry officiating. A reception will follow in the church vestry after the service. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
