HAMPDEN - Jeanette Marie (Leonard) Witham, 88, wife of the late Charles E Witham, passed peacefully to her eternal home June 4, 2019, at a Bangor hospital, after a short illness, with her loving family by her side. Jeanette was born August 8, 1930 in Hampden, the daughter of Roscoe and Madeline (Cole) Leonard.
Jeanette attended Hampden Schools and upon her completion she met and married the love of her life, Charlie Witham. While raising their five sons, Jeanette enjoyed her small farm in Hampden, working in her garden and taking care of the animals. Jeanette lived on the Back Winterport Road most of her life, where her neighbors consisted of her family. She enjoyed the closeness of having her brothers, sister and cousins living close by. They were a very close knit family.
When Jeanette’s boys were older her passion was traveling around the fair circuit in Maine. Her and Charlie and the boys ran Witham’s Cookhouse for more than 60 years on fairgrounds all across the State. She worked hard and made many lifelong friends along the way. Jeanette also ran her business Charlie’s Pizza in Hermon, and her camp store at the Big Hammond Street Campground, better known as Bugs Bunny Campground in Hermon. Jeanette was one of the hardest working women you would ever want to meet.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by the love of her live, her husband, Charlie; brothers, Elwell Leonard, Raymond Leonard, Malcolm Leonard; and a sister, Rosa Narofsky. Jeanette leaves behind her five sons, Charles Jr of Newport, Dennis and wife, Barbie of Hermon, Jeffrey and wife, Ann of Titusville, FL, Rick of Hampden, and Roscoe and wife, Faye of Hampden; grandchildren, Susan Morissitte of Winslow, Shawn Witham of Orrington, Sarah Boggs of Bangor, Jessica Bouchard and husband, Alan of Bangor, Dennis Witham II and wife, Amy of Brewer, Jeffrey Witham Jr. of Bucksport, Charlie Anne Witham of Milo, Nicole Witham and fiancé, Corey Wells of Bucksport, Krysta Lane and husband, Levi of Old Town, Kaylah Witham of Benton, Roscoe C. Witham of Bangor, and Rachel Smith and husband, Dustin of Louisiana; great grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Joshua, Jackie, Noah, Jakob, Trey, Lily, Jeffrey III, Cody, Dakota, Allana, Steven, Levi, Chandler, Charlotte, Aiden and Collin; great-great grandchildren, Jeffrey IV, and Grayson; several very special nieces and nephews; a very special cousin, Flossey Ryder; and two very dear friends, Marcia Smith, and Sherry Smith.
A graveside service will be held 2p.m., Friday, June 7, 2019, at Lakeview Cemetery, Western Avenue, Hampden, with William Spaulding, officiating. A celebration of life reception will be held immediately following the service at her and her son Rick’s home, 379 Back Winterport Road, Hampden.
