Jeannette Marie Turner

Jeannette Marie Turner passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2024. She was born on July 2, 1961, in Bangor, ME and was the beloved daughter of Leroy Gordon and Patricia Ann (McCluskey) Turner. She was predeceased by her father, mother and youngest brother Daniel Turner.

Jeannette attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1979. Following graduation, she held various jobs, mostly in the retail industry in Bangor. Most recently she worked at Kohls as a customer service representative. She was very friendly and outgoing, so this was a perfect role for her.

At 15 years old, Jeannette was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She faced many health challenges as a result, but this didn’t stop her from living a happy life. She loved to do crafts and gave her handiwork to others as gifts. She learned to make pickles which led her and a friend to start a venture called J&J Pickles. She even uses “the pickle lady” in her email address. She was always up for fun adventures with her friends Sandy, Suzanne and her cousin Theresa to name a few.

She made full use of social media to further her social circles, to stay in touch with friends and family and to rekindle friendships from the past. She loved catching up with old friends from high school and became deeply involved in organizing her class reunions. The BHS Class of ’79 reunion committee will miss her organizational skills and enthusiasm for keeping everyone connected.

Jeannette cherished her family. She was so proud to have a nephew, three nieces, two great-nieces and three great-nephews, all of whom she simply adored. She also gave her heart to her partner Tim Bowmaster and his family, especially his daughter, Tara Smith. She loved being a “bonus mom” to her and considered her the daughter she never had.

As so many know, Jeannette had a very special relationship with her younger brother, Danny. She was his protector, making sure that he had a happy life surrounded by people who loved him.

Jeannette loved family gatherings and family traditions. She took on the tradition of hosting holiday meals where everyone was welcome after her parents passed . If you didn’t have a place to go for a holiday, she would welcome you to join her. She was the family archivist and knowledge bank. If you wanted to know anything about the Turner/McCluskey clan she was the one to ask. After her father passed away, she became the family fudge and candy maker, continuing to distribute his candy at Christmas to loved ones—a tradition she proudly continued through her last Christmas in 2023.

Jeannette is survived by her beloved partner Tim Bowmaster and his daughter Tara Smith of Bangor; her brother, Mike and his wife Deb of Brewer, ME, and their daughter and son-in-law Delaney Turner and Emil Atz of Groveland, MA; her brother Pat and his wife Yvette of Scarborough, ME, and their children and grandchildren – Lucas of Bangor and his children Eliza, Wylie and Zoe – Melissa and Jim Cucinotta of Windham and Melissa’s son Parker Frost – Kate and Ben Maples of Victoria, MN and their children Denton and Hunter. She also leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins as well as dear friends Sandy Brown and Tony Nadeau.

Jeannette was a warm, caring person who opened her heart to so many throughout her lifetime. She had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor and quite a laugh. She could tell a story like no other, and despite all of her many physical challenges, she saw the world and people through rose-colored glasses. If you read through her Facebook stream, it is an almost daily sharing of positive encouragement and beautiful thoughts. She will be missed by so many that loved her.

In honor of Jeannette’s love of dogs, gifts may be made in her memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401 or on-line at www.bangorhumane.org.

The family wishes to invite relatives and friends to a Celebration of Jeannette’s Life Monday, August 12, 2024 from 4-6 pm at Brookings-Smith Family Reception Center, 163 Center St. Bangor, ME . The Rite of Committal for Jeannette will be held privately at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, where her remains will be laid to rest with her dear father, mother and brother Danny.
