Joan Murphy

Joan “Joanne” Mae Murphy, 70 died October 29, 2015 after a brief illness at a local hospital. She was born December 28, 1944 to Ernest G and Ida May (Morgan) Christakos. Joanne met the love of her life, John Murphy in 1959, married in 1963 and they were inseparable right up until the day of her death. Together they were a model for all to follow as they, throughout 52 years of marriage, always appeared to be newlyweds.
Joanne had an infectious laugh and was always the life of the party. Over the years, she made many friends with whom she and John had some very fun and often extraordinary times. Joanne was a spectacular cook and was known for always making enough to feed an army, which often wasn’t far from the truth with two sons and all their friends coming in and out of the house over the years.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 52 years, John; two sons, Bill and his wife Jessica of Portland, Jim and his wife Angel of Hampden; a sister Jeannette Taylor and her husband Bill of Bangor; an aunt, Anna Stanley of Florida; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Ida Christakos; and two brothers, James Christakos and Richard Christakos. She was also predeceased by two infant brothers Ernest Christakos Jr and George Christakos.
She will be profoundly missed by her family and many special friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 10-11 am, Saturday, November 7 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 11 am, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held immediately after burial from 1pm to 5pm at Season’s on Main in the main dining room, 427 Main St. Bangor, Maine. All who knew and loved Joanne are encouraged to come and celebrate as she would.
