Joel W. Mclaughlin

CORINTH - Joel McLaughlin, 79, passed away, December 7, 2021. He was born April 28, 1942, in Kennebunk, the son of John McLaughlin and Helen (Buck) McLaughlin. Joel graduated from East Corinth Academy in the Class of 1961. He was active in 4H and FFA. Joel was drafted to the Army in 1966, serving in the 92nd engineer battalion in the Vietnam War. He married Elizabeth “Betty” (Crocker) McLaughlin in 1964. Joel was an active community member including a member of the Kenduskeag Mason Lodge #137, the Jaycees, and a town selectman. He returned from the military with his electrical license which he used to work for Mont LC Poullen. He and Betty decided to start the McLaughlin family farm in the early 1970s. Upon retiring from farming Joel worked with his nephew, Randy Adams at RL Adams Construction, Inc. Joel enjoyed hunting and telling stories around the kitchen table. Joel leaves behind many loving family members including: a son; David McLaughlin and wife Angela of Hampden, with their sons, Joe Page and his fiance Hannah, and their son, Kenny, AJ McLaughlin and his wife Jahna; a daughter, Pam Shoop and husband Mike of Camp Hill, PA, and their daughter, Samantha; a son, Gary McLaughlin and wife Angela of Corinth, and their daughters, Marissa and Zoey; his brothers, Barry McLaughlin and wife Kim of Corinth, ME, Larry McLaughlin and his wife Susie of Old Town, ME and sister, Nancy (McLaughlin) Adams and her husband Gana of Levant, ME; sister in laws, Carol McLaughlin and Sheila McLaughlin, and many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Ellwell Hicks. Joel was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty McLaughlin; his parents, and by brothers, Arthur, “Skippy” and his wife Eleanor, and “Nonie”. A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM, Saturday, December 11 at the Brookings-Smith Bangor Chapel, 133 Center Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service.
