BANGOR – Johanna “Gig” (Cobb) Weeks died Jan. 2, 2016 at a local hospital. Gig was born Dec. 22, 1953 in Bradenton, Fla, the middle daughter of George H. and Patricia (Woods) Cobb.
She was a 1971 graduate of Manatee High School in Bradenton, and a 1975 graduate of Smith College with a degree in geology. On Oct. 25, 1975, she married Paul A. Weeks and the couple settled in Portland while he attended law school. They later moved to Woolrich and in 1985 made Bangor their home. For several years, Gig conducted admission interviews for Smith College. She was a member of the Bangor Junior League; taught science for Bangor Alternative high school; was a longtime employee of BookMarcs and volunteered in the community for programs such as the Shakespeare Festival, Bangor Historical Society and Bangor Community Reading Day.
Gig is survived by her husband, Paul of Bangor; daughter Abagail Weeks of Hampden; son, Nathaniel Weeks and his wife, Catherin and grandchildren, Lillian and Philip, all of Bedford, NH; mother, Patricia of Bradenton; sister Susanna and Peter Toumanoff of Hancock, NH; sister Laura Cobb and Henk den Braber of Culemborg, the Netherlands; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, George.
A celebration of her life will be held 1 to 3pm Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
