John Gilbert, 77, passed away unexpectedly September 19, 2020. He was born in Bangor, January 1, 1943 the son of William A. Gilbert and Anne Gilbert Scanlon. John had been a roofer since the age of 16. He retired from Roof Systems of Maine. “Big John” was a man of few words but had the biggest heart. He was a very giving man and always gave back to his community. He was very witty and had a nickname for everyone. He will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by a son Kevin Gilbert. Surviving are four children, Robin Wiley, Lisa Eaton, Tammy Champoux and Mary Stewart; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Powers. A graveside service will be held 2 pm. Wednesday September 23, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
