John Phillips

April 2, 1936 — April 30, 2015

John C. Phillips, 79, passed away, April 30, 2015, at a Bangor hospital. John was born in Levant, April 2, 1936, the son of Earl and Hazel (Graves) Phillips.

John married Gloria (Goodspeed) Phillips on August 3, 1957. Together, they spent 52 happy years together. John worked for 45 years for Webber Oil as a truck driver, dispatcher, and other positions over the years. He was a member of the Kenduskeag Lodge #137 AF&AM from whom he received his 50 year pin, and a member of Anah Shrine. John was a faithful attendant of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.

John enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the UConn Girls basketball games. One of his favorite hobbies was taking care of the yard work on his John Deere tractor, as well as playing with his faithful companion, his dog, Annie.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria; sister, Athel and her husband, Alden "Sonny" Keith; father-in-law, Raymond Goodspeed; and brother-in-law, Neal Reed. John is survived by his children, Karen Goodspeed and husband, Ray, Earl Phillips and wife, Myra, and Diane Finley and husband, Luke; his grandchildren, Ray Goodspeed Jr. and wife, Sarah, Kevin Goodspeed, John Phillips, Michael Phillips, Nicole Finley and Brian Finley; his great-grandchildren, Jake and Makenzie; his stepmother-in-law, Alice Goodspeed; sister-in-law, Shirley Reed; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, with Pastor Stanley H. Griffin of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, officiating. Interment will be at Waugh Cemetery in Levant.
