John “Jack” E. Quirk, Sr.
Belfast, ME.
John “Jack” E. Quirk, Sr. passed away Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at his residence in Belfast, ME.
HE DID IT HIS WAY—Surrounded by his beloved wife of 32 years, Bunny, and his stepchildren, Joel Nye and Julie Thomas, Jack slipped quietly away to join his Lord in heaven. He was at peace with the ocean in front of him, family beside him, and heaven above.
Jack was born in Bangor, December 21st , 1931, son of the late John Quirk and Frances Billington.
He was predeceased by is siblings, sister, Mary Jo Ann and brother
George.
He attended John Bapst high school and graduated with the class of 1949. He then stayed in Bangor to attend Husson College for a business degree. His college was interrupted to serve his country with admirability by joining the Air Force where he later returned to Maine to work for car dealerships. He worked with determination and intense drive that would soon start an incredible career owning multiple car dealerships.
Jack’s accomplishments have been many. Outside of his successful entrepreneurship in the automobile industry, his philanthropy was constant. He always was giving to whatever and whoever were in need. He did this with no refrain and with a tremendous unselfishness. Helping others was what Jack loved to do. Whether it was helping his family and friends or supporting a community that he loved so dearly, he did it without expecting anything in return. This is what made Jack so loved and what made him the man he was.
His hobbies were plentiful, including travel, playing cards and always catching whatever ball game was on that night. An important highlight of his days was having lunch with a group of buddies, some of them are with him in his peace in heaven. One of Jack’s favorite hobbies was his passion for travel. Traveling in his favorite riverboat trips gave him the opportunity to see the world and experience other cultures which he valued so much.
In his final days even through some difficult moments, Jack maintained his positive outlook on life and his one-of-a-kind sense of humor that his family and friends will remember forever.
Jack is survived by his wife, Bernice Quirk, stepchildren, Julie Thomas and her husband Kurt, John Nye and his wife Amy, Joel Nye and his wife Lisa; grandchildren, Ashley Doyon, Andrew Picard, Logan Larabee, Alexis Larabee, Griffin Nye; great grandson, Landon Doyon. Lastly Jack is survived by his sons, John Jr., Robert, James, Thomas, David, Seth and Heath; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank caregiver Penny Armstrong for her constant love, R.N.’s Courtney and Tonya for their care, and Maine Health’s Sussman House for their professionalism. The family would also like to thank PA Ainsley Price, from Waldo County General Hospital for continuously providing overall medical structure for Jack.
At his request there is not a viewing or service at this time. A celebration of his life will be announced later in the spring.
