John B. Rancourt, 94, passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 15th, 1930 in Moscow, Maine, the son of Harry J. and Alice M. (Roderick) Rancourt.
John graduated from Winterport High School, class of 1948. Following graduation, he continued to work on his father’s dairy farm. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary E. Stuart and 1 year later with baby son John Jr, they headed to California, along with his sister Clara and her fiancé. There he worked on airplanes at a Boeing factory. A few months later, he was called back home to take over working the farm due to the health of his father. He continued to work his dairy farm until 1982 and after the death of his first wife, sold the cows and went to work for his brother Leon in construction. He remarried two years later to Ruth Hunt, a nurse who had lovingly taken care of his first wife, Mary. Together they continued to maintain the farm, fields and woods on his beloved farm. Later he went to work for the town of Winterport as Road Commissioner for a few years. He also cut firewood and continued this in his later years with his sidekick son John.
He was always active. He loved working, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. Most of all spending time with family at Swan Lake. He was a faithful mass attender at St. Gabriels of St. Paul the Apostle Parish where he served as a collector along with his brother, Reggie, for many years.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth; brother, Reggie; son, John and wife Carol of Carmel; daughter, Deb Marsters of Florida; and son, Stuart of Washington; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers and nine sisters; one grandchild, Isaiah, and his first wife, Mary.
Friends may call from 5-7PM, Monday, April 22nd, 2024, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish St. Gabriel’s Church, 435 South Main Street, Winterport, at 11AM, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, followed by the Rite of Committal at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport.
