John T. Senter, Jr. age 79, of Bucksport passed away unexpectedly, May 15, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born on July 30, 1942 in Bangor, Maine, son of John T. Senter, Sr and Ada (Johnson) Senter. John graduated from Hampden Academy in 1962 and continued his education at SMVTI in South Portland. He retired from Bangor Hydro-Electric Company after 30 years as Supintendant of Mechanical Maintenance. Post-retirement, he worked for 14 years for Husson University. John was a 33 degree Scottish Rite Freemason and Shriner. Earlier this year he received his 50-year masonic service pin. He coached baseball and was a Cub Scout leader. John loved boat rides in his little red boat and putting “gadgets” together. John enjoyed cooking for his family and could often be found tending the lobster pot at family events. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and working on his land with his ‘John’ Deere tractor. John’s quick wit and large laugh would shine when he was surrounded by family. He was the “Dog Whisperer” to his granddogs and looked forward to his fishing trips each year. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth (Astbury) Senter, brothers David Senter of Hampden, Wilbur Senter and wife Lois of Carmel, sister Martha Wise of Indiana, sister-in-law Thelma Astbury of Ellsworth, son Robert Senter and wife Julie of Standish, daughters Stephanie Cossette and husband Ed of Eddington, April Giard and husband Joseph from Orland and Jody Sylvia and husband Stephen of Lakeville, Massachusetts. His beloved grandchildren: Granddaughters Devin Sylvia, Autumn Senter, Danielle Giard and Grandsons Adam Cossette and wife Rachel, Michael Giard and girlfriend Kylie Hawes, Devin Senter, Cameron Sylvia, Alex Senter and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother Bobby, grandson Brandon and his beloved Grandmother, Ada (Darter) Johnson. A private graveside service will be held and friends and family are welcome to stop by to share memories on June 25th from 3-5pm at The Giard residence, 203 Soper Rd, Orland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/.
