JOHN HENRY SMART
HOLDEN – John H. Smart, 83, passed away peacefully May 7, 2020 at his longtime partners’ home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 24, 1936, in Sangerville, the son of Howard E. and Glenys Viola (Wharff) Smart.
John graduated from Piscataquis Community High School, Class of 1956. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He later enlisted in the Air National Guard. John celebrated 56 years of marriage to Lois Smart and raised a family in Holden. He was a loyal member of the Odd Fellows for 65 years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lois; brothers, Richard and Thomas; sisters, Roberta Jeffries, and Ruth Jones; brothers-in-law, Blaine Kallgren and Francis Jones; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Smart. Surviving, in addition to his loving partner, Sandy Turner and her family, are his sister Sylvia Kallgren, his brother-in-law Bruce Jeffries, his sons, Timothy Smart and his significant other, Marlene Spencer, Corey Smart and his wife, Tess; daughter, Shannon and her husband, Robert Marshman, grandsons, Zachary Smart and Patrick Smart, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
