Jori Lynn Briggs (King), 60, of Bangor, Maine, passed away suddenly in her sleep on February 22nd, 2025, at her winter residence in Florida.
The matriarch of the family, Jori's wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love will be deeply missed.
Born in Lincoln, Maine, on September 21, 1964, to Ken and Leta King (Jordan) of Chester, Maine, Jori graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1982 and later graduated from Beal College.
In 1985, she married Bob Briggs, the love of her life, with whom she enjoyed a devoted 40-year marriage. In 1989, she welcomed her son, Logan, and three years later, in 1992, she gave birth to her daughter, Kelsey-Lynn.
Jori was a devoted wife and a loving, encouraging Mom and Grammie. Throughout her life, Jori was the cornerstone of her family and was a steadfast supporter of everyone. Whether it was a bowling or hockey tournament far away, strolling through the zoo, or bringing flowers to her favorite dancer at dance recitals, Grammie could always be found wishing good luck, cheering for, and hugging her babies. Every Tuesday she could be found at her parent's house making crafts with her mother and sister. Friday nights were reserved for her famous Grammie sleepovers, a night where she kept her grandchildren for movies, games, and snacks. On Saturday nights, you could find her enjoying dinner out with her husband and the other "birds," as she called her family. She was an ever-present figure in her family's lives where now a significant hole remains.
She went on many journeys with her husband, always trying to find something new to experience. She especially adored warm weather and loved spending her winters in the southern sun. She would always say, "Let's go!" at the suggestion of anything new and exciting. She enjoyed nighttime golf cart rides, watching her grandkids experience Disney World, and, of course, one of her favorite pastimes: sailing into the sunset on cruises with Bob.
Growing up, she played several instruments and often talked of her fun times at band camp. As a young adult, Jori didn't play very often, but she always expressed how she would love to play music again. To her family's pride, she recently began taking violin lessons and joined a small orchestra, where she played her favorite instrument, the flute. She was known for her love of crafting, instilled in her by her mother and father; alongside her sister, she would create many beautiful things, from quilts and dresses for her granddaughter to scrapbooks and homemade journals. She was an expert at putting together puzzles and was a very competitive chickenfoot domino player.
Jori never shied away from hard work and held many interesting jobs throughout her life, such as soldering microchips, cueing up vinyl records for their DJ service, mowing lawns, and perhaps most fatefully, being the drive-thru girl at Wendy's, where she caught the eye of Bob and where their life took off. Jori also worked as the secretary at Fourteenth Street School in Bangor, Maine, where she was cherished for her kind nature and genuine care for the children. Before retiring from the school, Jori worked nights and weekends alongside Bob to build a company that was the culmination of her life's hard work: Centerline Utility Services. From the ground up, Jori and Bob built a multi-state-wide company, all starting with locator Bob and "Flag girl" Jori. All of her successes were thanks to her tireless work ethic, her enduring relationship with Bob, and her determination to provide a better life for the people she loved.
Jori will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and anyone who had the opportunity to know her.
