BREWER - Joseph (“Joe”) Goldsmith, 92, of Brewer, Maine, passed away Friday, January 9th, 2015 peacefully at home after battling years of declining health. He was born October 15th, 1922, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Harry and Doris Goldsmith.
Joe graduated from Old Town High School as valedictorian of his class, and went to University of Maine at Orono. Following graduation, he was a proud veteran of World War II. In 1945, Joe entered Goldsmith Furniture Company, in Old Town, Maine, a business that was started by his grandfather, David, and father, Harry, and carried on the legacy of Goldsmith Furniture Company. Besides his family, Joe’s favorite things were boxing, football, golf, candy, and gum.
Joe is survived by two beloved daughters, Donna Goldsmith Kleinman, of Chicago, Illinois, and Suzy Goldsmith Trammell, of Scarborough, Maine; two cherished grandchildren, Andrea Ruth Kleinman, and David Curtis Trammell; devoted sister, Natalie Goldsmith Gewertz, and two dear nieces, Debbie and Martha Gewertz, all of South Pasadena, California; loving son-in-law, Jon Kleinman; and mother of his children, Sarah L. Smyth.
The family wishes to thank Katie Courchene and her staff for their compassionate care during Joe’s illness.
Graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, January 12, 2015 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Severance St., Bangor, Maine. Shiva is being observed at the home of Donna and Jon Kleinman in Chicago, Illinois. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
