Josephine Folsom Crook, 84, wife of the late John (Jack) Crook, passed away on January 9, 2015. She was born on February 13, 1930 to Charles and Leila (Pierce) Folosm.
Josephine grew up on the family farm on the Wiswell Road in Brewer. She and Jack were married on September 9, 1950 and lived on the Crook farm in East Orrington until 1967, when they built the home on the Fowler Road and later built another home on the Richardson Road on King’s Mountain.
Josephine worked for the Bangor Daily News for 27 years, retiring in 1989. She and Jack then moved to Kissimmee, Florida and lived there until Jack’s death in 2007. While in Florida, Jo worked at Sea World for 10 years and was very proud to tell her grandsons she learned how to pour beer without getting any foam in the glass.
There were many special memories for her: all the fishing trips to Moosehead and East Grand Lakes, all the wonderful trips made with the Anah Shrine Mini Bike Unit, the cross country trip they took in 1993, and most of all, the “How Crooks Bark Camp” built in 1960 in Township 35. It was their own “Golden Pond” and Jack was “the old poop”.
Josephine was a proud member of East Orrington Congregational Church and, after Jack passed away, she was so happy to be back in Maine and living “on the hill” again right beside her beloved church. She was also very proud to be the last living charter member of the Millwee Chapter #198, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Neal Crook of Bangor, and his partner, Cally Boulier and the entire Boulier clan; a daughter, Irene Chandler of Milford; two grandsons, Scott Corey and his wife, Robin of Auburn and Jay Corey of Rochester, NY; six great-grandchildren, Gavin and Jackson Corey and Ella Donavan of Auburn and William, Andrew and Thomas Corey of Rochester, NY; one sister, Eunice Baldwin of Bangor; one brother, Bud Folsom of Brewer; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Washburn and Betty Renaud of Brewer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family thanks all of her caregivers over the last four years; the staff at the Sylvia Ross Home, Ross Manor, hospice from Community Health and Counseling, and Dr. Toby Atkins.
A celebration of Josephine’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at East Orrington Congregational Church, with Reverend Carl Schreiber, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share in conversation and refreshments at the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Those who wish to remember Josephine in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the East Orrington Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, ME 04474. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
