WINTERPORT – Joshua Martin “JM”, “Buddy” Clark, 88, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 28, 2019 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born on November 10, 1930, the youngest child of Maurice G. and Ruth (Emerson) Clark.
Joshua served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in France. His unit was assigned to help with the continued rebuilding effort of that war-torn country after World War II. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Geraldine Ruth Patterson. After his honorable discharge Buddy returned to Winterport and found work at a local plumbing and heating company, while at the same time helping his parents with their dairy farm. Buddy found his true calling in the dairy business, he established one of the best small dairy operations in central Maine. Buddy loved the dairy farm life and was a natural. In 1965 the Clarks lost the barns and surrounding buildings to a lightning strike fire. Undaunted by the task ahead they rebuilt. Over the next five-plus decades Joshua would continue to grow the farm.
Joshua was a humble man with a quick wit and a great knowledge of the times long ago. Joshua believed in people and was always optimistic about tomorrow, always quick with a story or a joke to lighten a somber mood or brighten someone’s day. He was a generous man, donating his time and resources to family, friends, and neighbors. Buddy was very active in his community, he was selectman for the town of Winterport, and a fifty-year member of the Howard Lodge #69 A.F. & A.M., he enjoyed going to auctions, snowmobiling, and was an avid hunter. Joshua was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend, he will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, Geraldine, Buddy is survived by his widowed daughter-in-law, Judith Quimby Clark; daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Mike Worster; son, Lemuel “Marty” Clark and his wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Sherri, Shane, Jessica, Andrew, Kayla, Julia, Chad, and Joshua; several great-grandchildren; and two very special great-granddaughters, Courtney and Erin. In addition to his parents, Buddy was predeceased by his beloved son, Steven Joshua Clark; brother, Col. Stephen Clark; sisters, Olive, Pauline, and Ruth Clark, Connie El-Hajj, Hope Higgins-Adams, and Ardel Casey.
The family would like to thank Winterport Fire and Rescue and the medical team at Northern Light EMMC who took great care of Joshua. Joshua had many special friends and the family would like to extend heart-felt gratitude to his loving and enduring friends, Wayne and Shirley Eldridge.
The family invites friends to share in conversation and refreshments at Joshua and Geraldine’s house from 2-5 pm, Sunday, July 7, 2019.
