Joyce Clark

November 23, 1930 — November 23, 2013

Joyce Marie Clark, 83, passed away suddenly, November 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. The Lord took her home on the same day she was brought into this world, November 23, 1930, in Abbot, the daughter of Wesley and Rachel (Thomas) Carr.
Joyce graduated from Old Town High School, class of 1949. After graduation, Joyce married Leon Clark, with whom she spent 40 years. She had a “can-do!” attitude that took her through many careers, starting with Sears and Roebuck, and continuing to WABI-TV and Eastern Maine Medical Center, with her greatest passion being found in the real estate business.
Joyce loved to square-dance, and also loved to sew many square-dancing outfits for herself and her children when they participated in the Maypole Festival. Later, she enjoyed camping trips in the North Maine Woods and became an avid golfer at the Villages in Florida, as well as playing numerous courses in Maine. Joyce discovered a love and talent in painting, and she filled her home with beautiful paintings of flowers. In the last few years, she found companionship in Sammy, her faithful Maltese, who misses her greatly.
Joyce is survived by her son, Scott Clark, and his wife, Claire of Kenduskeag; daughter, Judy Anderson and her husband, Leon of Corinth; brother, Larry Carr and his wife, Becky of Dedham; grandchildren, Michelle and Nicole Clark, Jason Clark and his wife, Jamie, Benjamin Clark and his wife, Brandy, Michael and Jamie Anderson; great grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia, Benjamin Jr., Brye, and Madeline Colby; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Leon Clark, and a son, Brian.
Joyce’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Kelly Monahan and Char Hardison, Nurse Becca, the Emergency Department of Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Doug Craven and especially Dr. Robert Bach of the Palliative Care Unit, for their gentle and compassionate care of Joyce during this difficult time.
A funeral to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held 11 AM, Monday, December 2, 2013 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10 AM until time of service. Interment will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant, following the service. Relatives and friends are invited to join in conversation and refreshments at the home of Scott and Claire Clark in Kenduskeag following the interment.
