Joyce Marquis

March 13, 1945 — November 22, 2014

Joyce A. Marquis, LPN, 69, passed November 22, 2014 after an extended illness with Dementia. Joyce was born March 13, 1945 in Bangor the daughter of Lionel O. Marquis and Velma (Gray) Marquis. Joyce was a life long resident of Bangor. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1963 and St. Joseph’s School of Licensed Practical Nursing shortly after. She was an employee of St. Joseph’s Hospital for 43 years. Among her nursing credits is the fact that she was a respected member of the I.V. Team and was gifted in this area.
Joyce was an avid reader, loved her dogs, and was well known for her therapy dog visits to patients in the Bangor area. She also enjoyed gardening, music, walking, and visiting the coast where she had fond memories of her childhood family camp.

Joyce is survived by her three sons: Scott Philbrick and his wife Lisa and son Mason of Brewer; Todd Philbrick and his wife Jennifer, their son Danner and daughter Brynn of Auburn, Washington; and Sean Philbrick of Bangor. Joyce is also survived by her sister Brenda Thurston and her husband Bill Thurston and their children Sherri and Bill Jr. of Massachusetts, as well as many cousins. Joyce will be fondly remembered by her devoted friends Loretta Libbey, Maggie Dutill, and Karen Kirchman. Family and friends wish to thank the wonderful staff at Westgate Manor, New Hope Hospice, and Beacon Hospice for their loving care of Joyce over the past few years.

Family and friends are invited to a time of shared memories and fellowship from 3-5 PM, Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to The Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
