Joyce Maxine Greener

Joyce Maxine (Bither) Greener, 93, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 16, 2021. She was born January 30, 1928, in Houlton, the daughter of Edwin and Lauretta Bither.

As a young woman she learned to pilot small airplanes, and did ministry work in churches in Maine. After getting married, she did missionary work in New York City with her husband Robert before moving to Long Island, New York where they raised their four children. Joyce especially enjoyed sharing everyday life experiences with her family, and loved cooking for daily family meals, and planning and cooking for large family gatherings and holiday celebrations. She loved varieties of flowers, and enjoyed being outdoors tending her beautiful flower gardens. She was a musician, and loved playing the piano and organ at home and at church. As the family grew through the years, she cherished visits and conversation with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joyce and Robert enjoyed 63 years of loving marriage before he passed less than 3 months apart.

She is survived by her loving children, Calvin and wife Patti, Stuart and wife Christie; daughter, Robin; nineteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Stephen; and siblings Jean, Harold, and Paul.

Friends may call from 10-11:00 AM, Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Bangor, followed by a funeral service being held at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta, at a later date. Please be mindful of others by practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering, that staff will be conducting contact tracing, and be aware that the number of people allowed in the chapel at one time is limited.
