Joyce (Nickerson) Mayer, 92, passed away April 19, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 8, 1926 in Bangor, the daughter of Scott and Georgia (Annis) Nickerson. Joyce was a devoted and loving wife, mother, Grammie, sister and aunt. She was an avid knitter, making more sweaters, mittens and socks than her family could ever wear out. Her tubs of yarn were endless. She loved playing cribbage and teaching the game to her grandchildren, and even allowing them to win occasionally. “Grammie’s green salad” was always a hit at the family and holiday gatherings she so loved. Her quiet smile and loving demeanor will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Dorrity and husband Jay Muth of Winterport; daughter in law Julie Dorrity of Winterport; former husband and lifelong friend Bill Dorrity of Winterport; grandchildren Heidi Taylor and husband James of Rockland, Tom Dorrity and wife Petra of Hampden, Allyson Dorrity of Bangor, Casey Dorrity and wife Abigail of Hampden, and Zach Dorrity and wife Rebekah of Hancock; great grandchildren Tommy and Emma Dorrity, and Jude Taylor; and several special nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Joseph Mayer, son William Dorrity III, grandson Scott Dorrity, sisters Arrene Nickerson and Mary Chase, and brother Kenneth. The family gives special thanks to the caregivers of St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassionate care during Joyce’s final months.
