Joyce (Tasker) Wheeler, 95, passed away at home, May 17, 2022, following a period of declining health, in the loving care of her daughter, Kathryn Blanchard, and devoted caregiver, Lesa Bennett. She was born in Corinna, ME, the daughter of Clair Stearns Tasker and Hazel (Pearson) Tasker.
Joyce attended school in Corinna, ME, and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, ME in 1945. She attended Beal College in Bangor, ME. She was employed at Bell Shops in Bangor, ME. She married Royce G. Wheeler in 1948 and they settled in Bangor, Brewer, and Hermon, ME in 1956. Royce and Joyce had three children. They celebrated 72 years of marriage in May 2020. Joyce was a 45+ years member of Hermon Baptist Church, where she assisted and taught Vacation Bible School classes. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Hermon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years, and a 50 year member of The Eastern Star. She also worked for the Town of Hermon as a Ballot Clerk for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen and her husband, Thomas White, Sr, and their children Melinda and Thomas II, her son Robert Wheeler, and husband Royce Wheeler. She is survived by daughter Kathryn Blanchard of Bangor, a granddaughter and her husband, Julie & Mark Beaulieu of Myrtle Beach, SC, and her great-grandson Shayne Dow of Myrtle Beach, SC. Son Ernest D. Wheeler, II & Linda George Wheeler of Hermon, ME. Brother-in-law Harold A. Wheeler & wife Debra of Bangor, ME.
The family wishes to recognize and thank the Northern Light Hospice team, Hannah, Laura, Heather, Matt, Nicole, Connie, Jen, Nancy, and Chaplain, David Gardner. Northern Light Physical Therapist, Ben Stout, who has worked with Joyce for the last year. And Lesa Bennett, CNA who went above and beyond in her loving care of Joyce.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1-2pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor, ME. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm officiated by Rev. Garnett Chute, Pastor Scott Taylor, and Pastor Jon Doughty. It was Joyce’s request that everyone wear bright, happy colors. Immediately following the service, internment of Royce and Joyce will be held at Snows Corner Cemetery in Hermon, ME.
