Julie Marie (Sutherland) Moeller, 53, died unexpectedly on May 6, 2016, from a heart condition. She was
born on April 18, 1963, the daughter of Jolayne (Stevens) Davis and Barrie Sutherland.
Julie was a 1981 graduate of Old Town High School and was currently fulfilling her dream of completing her
Bachelors Degree. Julie’s long career and experience in social services led her advocacy for those with developmental disabilities, anyone in need and especially volunteering for the Special Olympics. Her interest in politics often led her to volunteering for a candidate and her proudest moment of creating a State of Maine declaration of unfair wages for those who do direct care for developmentally disabled people,
On July 4th, 1999 Julie was married to Rich Moeller and loved being the “Wicked Step Mom” to his sons to Zachary and Nicholas. She loved them like they were her own and they loved her right back.
Julie filled a room with her presence whenever she arrived (usually late - aka “Julie time”) at which time the party started. Everyone was her friend and most called her Auntie. Her favorite place to be was by the campfire at Beech Hill Pond with a cold Sam Adams, listening to the loons and playing an “honest” game of cribbage.
She was predeceased by her father Barrie Sutherland and her brother Dirk Sutherland and is survived by her husband Rich Moeller of Brooks, her step sons, Nicholas Moeller of Old Town, Zachary Moeller (and his fiancé Amanda Smith) of Bangor, her mom Jolayne and stepdad David Davis of Milford, her step mom Joyce Sutherland of Enfield. Her siblings: Robin and her husband Jed Chase of Farmington, Hoyt Sutherland and his wife Lisa of Hanover, NH. Her sister and brother in-law Judy and Keith Nealley of Monroe. Nieces and nephews: Erica Nealley (and her fiancé Frank Cookson) of Old Town, Brittany Harris( and her family, Jeff, Griffin and Noelle) of Monroe, Parker and Samantha Sutherland of N.H. and Bailey Sutherland of Hampden. She will be greatly missed by her beloved dog Qia and her Beech Hill Pond extended family. Julie also leaves behind many dear friends, Mark Buck (with whom she always said she shared a” brain cell”), Scott Archer, Troy Pinkham, Robin Kinney, and her special family friend, Phyllis Brooks.
A celebration of Julie’s life will be held 2 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service.
