BANGOR - Kenneth R. Varney, of Bangor, formerly of Lamoine, passed away on his 84th birthday on December 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. Kenneth was born on December 8, 1939 in Exeter, New Hampshire, to Richard and Merla (Fenton) Varney.

Kenneth was raised in Jonesboro, Maine and graduated from Jonesboro High School, Class of 1959 While serving in the United States Air Force, he married Jane Smith, of Jonesboro. They returned to Maine and eventually settled in Lamoine, raising their 3 children, Teresa, Richard and Jennifer.

Kenneth worked many years for Hancock County Creamery. Upon its closing, he joined Grant’s Dairy and retired from Garelick Farms in Bangor. Ken was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to doing the best job possible.

Kenneth loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ken’s hobbies included creating the perfect lawn, fixing anything that needed fixing and being our very own weatherman. No one loved a snowstorm like our dad!

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Linda Varney. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Varney, of Bangor; daughter, Teresa Blaschke and her husband, Gary, of Standish; son, Richard, of Dedham; daughter, Jennifer Liebermann and her husband, Karl, of Holliston, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Anna, Dylan, Sophia and Max and his brother, James Varney, of Jonesboro. Remembered for his kindness and unconditional love, our dad and bampa’ will be greatly missed.

Services will be held in the spring at Acadia National Cemetery, 1799 US-1, Jonesboro, Maine. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
