Kern L. Feeney, 91, of Brewer, Me and Venice, Fl, died peacefully with family by his side February 13, 2023 at Winterberry Heights in Bangor. The son of Howard Knight and Christine Cecelia Trenholm Feeney, he was born in Bangor, January 6, 1932. His early years were spent living in Belfast with his family, working after school and weekends stocking shelves for his father and grandfather at the Feeney Family Grocery Market downtown Belfast. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1950 and was well remembered for his remarkable abilities on the basketball court. A highlight during Kerns basketball career was being chosen to play on an All Star team in an exhibition game against the Harlem Globe Trotters at the old Bangor Auditorium. Following graduation, he studied for a year at Higgins Classical Institute and went on to Management Training School at Armour and Co. in Chicago, Illinois. On December 5, 1953 Kern married Marion Louise Robinson from Coldwater, Michigan and Bangor. They went on to have five children, living and raising their brood in the Bangor, Brewer area, along with 3 dogs, 5 cats, bunnies, hamsters, birds, a green rooster and even a horse or two.
Kern joined the Army National Guard while working for Armour and traveling the state of Maine, selling carloads of beef (which he was proud of) to local grocers. He left Armour as an Assistant Manager after five years and accepted a position at Grants Dairy, also working in sales, and later becoming the general manager for the next 20 years before retiring at 55.
After retirement, Kern bought and managed real estate in the Bangor/Brewer area while fitting in time in the summer months to play some golf with family and friends. Kern especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends at his camp on Lucerne Lake where they enjoyed outdoor activities, boat trips and many burgers and hotdogs on the grill. Kern loved hunting with his son, Andy, and brother Mickey and friends at their cabin at Mt Chase in the fall and ice fishing in the winter. Marion and Kern spent their time together in the winter at their home in Venice, Florida, enjoying golf, dinners and theater with friends and family.
Surviving Kern are his loving wife of 69 years, Marion Robinson Feeney, daughters, Susan Brooker and Paul MacLeod of Venice, Fl, Kim Brountas and her husband George of Brewer, Me, Julie Heffernan and her husband Michael of Atlanta, Ga, Barbara Saint Amour and her husband John of Yarmouth, Me and son, Kern Andrew Feeney (Andy) of Brewer, Me.
