BANGOR - Kerry M. Cox, 77, died January 23, 2025 at a local hospital with his family at his side. He was born in Bangor October 20, 1947, the son of William and Eileen (McNulty) Cox.
Kerry graduated from John Bapst High School, Class of 1965. He first attended the University of Maine and Husson College, where he was a member of Mu Sigma Chi fraternity. He then served in the U.S. Army at various posts, ending at Ft. Ord, California, where he was the editor and photographer for the post's newspaper. Upon his separation from the Army, he obtained his college degree in journalism from Hartnell College in Salinas, California.
Kerry was previously married to Melody "Bobbie" Richardson, with whom he had two sons, Shawn and Ryan. Soon after returning to Maine, Kerry opened his own photography studio.
In 1980, Kerry married Deborah Seguino and soon thereafter joined his wife and in-laws in their family restaurant business. That prompted a love of cooking that became Kerry's life's work. He spent the majority of his career at the Holiday Inn on Main St. in Bangor, eventually retiring as their Food and Beverage Director, when the hotel was sold to make way for a new casino. Getting out of the kitchen was hard though, and Kerry spent the first part of his "retirement" as the chef for the Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Maine, where he loved passing on wisdom, advice, and stories to all the young women just starting out in their adult lives. When he did finally step out of the kitchen for good, he spent the rest of his days enjoying spending time with his family and friends; drives to the coast with Deborah, pizza parties for the grandkids, and "supervising" home projects with his sons.
Besides cooking, Kerry loved the outdoors. His favorite places to be were down at camp by the fire, or out on the lake fishing. One of the things Kerry was also passionate about was his love of Christmas. His hobby of woodworking led him to creating his own decorations, and putting them out every year was a project he planned for and relished. Kerry was a dedicated husband and father who cared deeply for his family. He was so loved and will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Kerry was predeceased by his brother, Steven. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; sons, Shawn Cox and wife, Kristen, of Bangor; Ryan Cox and fiancée, Fiona Russell, of West Bath and his grandchildren, Amella, Nikyla, Hanna, Cullen, Logan, Noah, Adam and Isla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St, Bangor. The Rite of Committal will be prayed in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor at a time to be determined in the spring. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
