Kirk Swenson

Kirk Swenson, 64, left the physical realm in early November. Kirk was born and raised in Hampden, graduated from Hampden Academy, raised his kids in Hampden, and worked across the state.
Kirk was a charming, kind, and gregarious man. He loved fishing and camping. He kayaked with the loons on Swan Lake, held court at camp, cooked with joy for anyone. He was a Master Gardener, growing vegetables for everyone he could hand them to. In his carpeting and tiling business, he was a true artisan - sure and skilled and proud of the product.
He was a man of many interests - mountain biking, pool tournaments, fly fishing, writing poetry, camping, football, nature photography. But he was guided by his love for cooking, gardening, and sport. He loved softball and his team, which won a state championship in 2002. The family thanks all of those who he played with for the love and community you gave him.
He volunteered regularly at Manna, and was a regular fixture of the Thanksgiving holiday service there. He was deeply proud of this work.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Swenson of Orono, Maine and his three children; Jessi Leigh Swenson, and spouse, Mark Pipes of Arlington, VA; Adam Swenson, and spouse, Sydney Bence of Portland, Maine; Daniel Swenson of Washington, D.C.; and his beloved grandchild Isadora Pipes of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by many of his friends, compatriots, and teammates.
Kirk will be sorely missed by all those who called him a dad, a brother, a neighbor, a friend. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 26 at 11AM at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Pastor Gail Janewoski officiating. There will be a reception at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service. There will be graveside services held following the reception at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden, at 2:30PM. If you wish to remember Kirk in a special way, the family requests donations to your local food pantry or soup kitchen.
