HERMON - Larry D. Brasslett, 74, entered this world on August 19, 1949, to parents David and Clara Brasslett. Most who knew him called him Bo.
Larry graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1967. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army and sent to Germany for 2 years. He returned to Bradford and married Carolyn Strout in 1972. Together, they built their first home and raised their two sons, Joseph and Aaron. Larry developed his construction skills working with his father. He later purchased the family business, with a partner, which became Brasslett-Pullen Construction. Larry could be found early in the morning to evening, putting in septic systems, building or repairing roads and bridges for both town and state. Larry’s skills on his bulldozer were impeccable. His talent to turn a raw piece of land into a beautiful landscape was searched out by many far and wide. His mechanical abilities were used to keep the business equipment running. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to Bob and Elaine Strout to assist with repairs on the school buses for Strout’s Bus Service. In the winter he plowed the roads for the town of Bradford for 40+ years.
Larry was known for his quick wit, teasing as much as he could and ability to throw out a one liner to liven up any gatherings. He was a very hard worker and loving husband, dad and grandfather. In 2011 Parkinson’s disease hit forcing him into retirement and selling his Bradford home. Larry and Carolyn moved to Hermon to be close to their sons and built a lovely handicap accessible home. Each stage of the dreaded disease proved difficult to bear. Determined to not let Parkinson’s control his life, his passion for being on his bulldozer continued. He also enjoyed puttering around in his garage, mowing the lawn, spending time with family, and reminiscing of times past.
Larry left us peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on August 8, 2024. He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn of 52 years; son, Joseph and wife, Amy and children, Alex and Loren; son, Aaron and wife, Kristen and daughters, Mallory and Jadyn; sister, Angela Stockwell, of Athens; brothers-in-law, Eugene and Donna-Marie Strout, Errol Strout, Jeff and Becky Randall all of Bradford; sister-in-law, Sheree Strout Tillson, of Hermon; Stephen Page whom Larry considered a brother he never had; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews, too numerous to name, will miss him as well. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Clara and David Brasslett; Carolyn’s parents, Bob and Elaine Strout; sister-in-law, Melanie Strout Randall. The more recent loss of brother-in-law Rick Tillson was a particular sorrow to Larry.
A very special thank you goes to a dear friend, Lorraine Randall, who was always there for the family.
A graveside service for Larry will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2024, at Williams Cemetery, Bradford.
