ORRINGTON - Larry Eckert, 63, died unexpectedly on June 20, 2021 at his home with Squirt by his side. He was born February 21, 1958, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Philip and Marguerite Eckert.
Larry graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1976. Following graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Connick, started a family, and settled in Orrington. Larry also started Larry Eckert & Son General Construction company, which he owned and operated for over 40 years.
Surviving him are his children; Robert Eckert and wife Stephanie Eckert, of Orrington; daughter, Sam Freeman and husband Terrance Freeman, of Orrington; grandchildren, Brooke and Alyssa Dempsey and Clementine and Lawson Freeman; sisters- Pam, Lori, and Tammi; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; close cousins; too many close friends to count; and a whole community that will feel his loss. In addition to his parents Larry was predeceased by his brother-in-law Andy; Nephew Brady; special Niece Mara; and many others close to his heart.
We could include a lengthy list of all the things Larry enjoyed, but his passion was in his business and work. He was a true blue collar American. He loved his country, his state, and most of all, his home town of Orrington. His loss will leave a void in the community. Larry’s wish was to lead a life like the great men in his family before him; in this he succeeded. In Orrington, he was so many people’s first call at the sign of trouble. He was always going to look for missing dogs or people, running generators for those in need during power outages, and donating to good causes; always while answering his phone to fix another issue. He never wanted praise for the good deeds he had done, and usually was helping silently, expecting no recognition. Larry will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. To know the man was to love him for all that he was.
In a more true to Larry fashion, an informal mountain service will be performed and followed by a celebration of life. The time and date will be announced by his children in the near future.
