Laurence Henry Morse

HAMPDEN - Laurence H. Morse died peacefully November 4, 2019, in his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 13, 1926 in Carmel, the son of Roy S. and Leola E. (Mitchell) Morse. Larry graduated from Carmel High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. He served our country with honor and pride. Upon his return Larry began his lifelong career as a mechanic and later as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4. Larry was a former member of the Archon Lodge #75 A.F. & A.M. of East Dixmont. He met the love of his life, Charlene. They married in 1950 and spent the next 63 years making memories with their families and friends and playing countless games of cribbage before Charlene passed in 2013. Larry enjoyed racing as a young man and faithfully watched as many NASCAR car and truck races as he could. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering in his garage refurbishing John Deere Tractors or a Model T, chatting with friends, watching his grandchildren in their many activities, camping and of course flying.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his wife, Charlene (McSorley) Morse; his brothers, Sumner, Charles, Leon, and Phillip; his sister, Jacqueline (Morse) Faulkner; and a son-in-law, Jon Thomas "JT" Misner. Surviving him are his daughters, Marsha Burr and husband, Richard of Carmel, Renae Morse Misner of Waterville; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Boynton) McCown and partner, Edward Lord, of Howland, Joyce Morse of Searsport, and Glennis McSorley; grandchildren, Michael Burr and wife, Kari-Ann of Carmel, Marcie (Burr) Barbarula and husband, Brad of Mapleton, Morgan Burr and partner, Adam Frost of Amherst, Benjamin Misner and fiancée, Emily Cote of Augusta, Alexander Misner of Waterville; and great grandsons, Waylon Burr, and Elliott Misner. Larry was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and close family friends, Sheila and Tommy Torrey, and Janet Lawrence. A celebration of life will be held 12 noon, Friday, November 8, 2019, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Rev. Mark Tanner, Pastor of the Skowhegan Federation Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11am until time of service, Friday. Interment with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, Carmel, immediately following the service, Friday.
