Lawrence Dunn, 92, died peacefully, July 15, 2016 at the Maine Veteran’s Home, with his family by his side. Born in Milford, August 24, 1923, son of Willie L. and Alice J. (Pelkey) Dunn.
He graduated from Old Town High School and served his country in the US Navy during WW II as a Boatsware Mate 1st Class. He was assigned to the USS Housatonic, A035 and the USS Arcturus, serving across the Pacific and Atlantic.
Lawrence married Erline T. Buck in Milford, June 14, 1947, they enjoyed 58 years together until she predeceased him in May 2005.
He enjoyed his work as an iron worker and was proud of his hard work on the Prudential Building in Boston, Ma. He was a longtime member of the Iron Workers Union #496. Lawrence enjoyed his time volunteering at the Maine Veteran’s Home, Bangor and taking trips with the Senior Center of Bangor. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and trying to outsmart the squirrels. Lawrence loved sports, especially the Red Sox. He had a great sense of humor and always had a great story to tell and a smile on his face.
Lawrence was the last surviving member of his siblings.
Surviving are his children, Greg Dunn and his wife, Karen, Deborah Snyder and her husband, Jeff, Laurel Roy and her husband, Danny, Aaron Dunn and his wife, Meredith; grandchildren, Jennie Ellis and her significant other, Brian Drisko, Jeremy Dunn, Kari Dudley, Kris Dudley and his wife, Jody, Kim Van Allen, Danielle VanAllen, Jillian Roy, Mitchel Dunn and Joseph Dunn; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta.
Gifts in his memory may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 313 Washington St., Ste.310, Newton, MA. 02458.
